What impact will Switzerland’s efforts to achieve net-zero emissions have on the country’s supply of gas? We support suppliers, cantons and municipalities in preparing for the future.

Given that the lion’s share of Switzerland’s current supply of gas is based on natural gas, a fossil fuel, the country’s efforts to achieve the goal of net-zero emissions can be expected to entail major changes for the natural-gas sector.

Distribution grids

We have been supporting gas suppliers in dealing with their grids for years. While some suppliers are currently focusing on analyzing the network and the basic options for action, for others the focus is on decommissioning planning:

  • Analyzing grid development
  • Granular modelling of future sales development
  • Modeling the effect on grid fees
  • Estimating the impact of partial decommissioning
  • Target grid planning and gas grid strategies
  • Outlining decommissioning variants and their costs

Gas supply

We work in interdisciplinary teams to support various stakeholders on issues relating to the transformation of supply:

  • Municipalities: Dealing with gas in the context of energy strategies and planning
  • Cantons: Helping to develop hydrogen strategies and reaching out to gas-supplied municipalities
  • Federal government: Conducting basic studies on natural gas, biogas, grids and hydrogen

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions on the future of gas as a source of energy.
