The City of Biel plans to revise its climate and energy policy so as to take account of the climate goals outlined in the Paris Agreement. EBP assisted the City in the areas of power, heating and transportation.

As a certified EnergyCity for more than ten years, Biel has long been committed to the goal of energy sustainability. As a testament to its ongoing efforts, the City received certification for meeting the EnergyCity Gold standard in 2020. And now EBP is helping Biel to again revise its climate and energy policy with an eye to achieving the goal of net-zero emissions. The process has included the following steps:

• Revision of the City’s climate and energy-policy objectives
• Identification of the additional potential for reducing carbon emissions in the power, heating and transportation sectors
• Drafting a catalogue of measures and establishing an organizational structure for their successful implementation
• Inclusion of relevant stakeholders in the drafting and role-allocation process to ensure key support for all goals
