The Swiss municipality of Geroldswil converted a landmark-protected hotel in the center of town and added a new building. Our challenge as planners was to intervene in the original structure in a restrained manner while also enabling new uses. We found creative solutions to realize the architect's vision, including placing a support structure above the existing technical building and creating new load-bearing structures to enable open spaces in the hotel’s highly partitioned original floorplan.
