Increasing heat stress and the urban heat island effect are drastic consequences of climate change for cities and municipalities. We helped the Swiss municipality of Baar to develop a strategy for dealing with increasing temperatures. The strategy identifies the specific challenges posed by excessive heat and offers a range of suitable measures for lowering temperatures in Baar with the ultimate aim of establishing climate-adapted designs for public and private properties.
