Taking a phased approach to larger construction projects is one way of promoting social sustainability in planning and construction. We examined and portrayed four examples of successful housing development built in several stages. We then used our findings to draft a twelve-point guideline for public and private investors interested in taking a phased approach to housing development in a socially acceptable way.
