High-pressure natural gas pipelines that exceed threshold levels for operating pressure and diameter are subject to the provisions of the Ordinance on Protection against Major Accidents (OMA). To ensure public safety, the risks posed by such pipelines must be assessed. On behalf of Gasverbund Mittelland AG (GVM AG), we analyzed the risks for five pipeline sections and quantified the risk-minimizing impact of measures, such as more frequent pipeline inspections and protective plates.

Our services

  • Analyzing the surroundings of the high-pressure natural gas pipelines (residential, commercial and construction areas, natural hazard zones)
  • Assessing human exposure within the potential impact zones using GIS tools
  • Calculating the risks according to the applicable provisions of the OMA
  • Presenting the risks with and without mitigation measures using diagrams that illustrate the probability and extent of damage
