We worked with the SBB to develop the preliminary study “Herzstück” to assess the feasibility of expanding the Basel Railway Hub. After completing a comprehensive assessment of the alternatives, we derived the reference variant involving the underground stations Mitte and Badischer Bahnhof, as well as the tunnel system (5 km, single- and double-track tunnels, undercrossing of the Rhine). The inner-city location poses significant challenges for construction feasibility and logistics. The exchange with all stakeholders and a holistic approach were the key to success.
