Within the the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) capacity expansion project connecting the cities of Zurich and Winterthur,  the ecological restoration plan for an approximately 800-meter stretch of the Kempt River was developed. The project serves as an ecological compensatory measure for the railway expansion project. A forest road will be relocated and rebuilt to widen the Kempt River, which will also serve as a hiking trail and bike path. Visitor management measures will separate priority areas for nature and recreational use and make them attractive.
