The Minergie certification arrives in Chile. EBP Chile is responsible for its introduction in the construction sector, overseeing the certification of the first two buildings in Chile and training Chilean professionals on the Minergie standard.
The construction sector in Chile is growing rapidly due to population increases and economic development. This is problematic, as new buildings in Chile often have low energy efficiency, low comfort, and simultaneously very high CO2 emissions. New technologies, such as heat pumps, external facade insulation, integrated photovoltaic energy generation in buildings, high-performance windows, etc., are less widespread than in Switzerland but are advancing.

The Chilean Ministry of Energy has set a goal to save 20% of energy by 2025. Additionally, an energy certificate for new non-residential buildings is being developed; currently, there is only an energy certificate for new residential buildings, which will soon become mandatory.
With the Minergie standard, a construction method is proposed that perfectly fits to accelerate the sustainable development of the sector in Chile towards a better construction standard. The standard combines energy efficiency and fossil fuel reduction with greater value retention and convenience. Furthermore, it allows for all technologies (except for heating with fossil fuels), has been tested a total of 47,500 times, and is used in about 12 countries.
The Minergie standard is being simplified to facilitate its introduction in Chile and adapt to the current conditions of the construction sector. EBP Chile is responsible for both local presence and market entry. The project consists of the following three steps:
- Adaptation of the Minergie standard to the Chilean market.
The standard is simplified in such a way that it is achievable and affordable, maintaining clear advantages in terms of energy and comfort compared to conventional construction and other labels. The new Minergie standard is being tested in two pilot projects, with adjustments being made in collaboration with local engineers and architects. - Development of a profitable business model for “Minergie Chile.”
For the entry into the Chilean market, a business plan, Minergie regulations, and a simple verification and certification process are defined. Additionally, the Chilean Minergie website is designed and launched. - Development of Chilean experts.
In this step, a Chilean network of Minergie experts is being built through training and further education to ensure the replication of more Minergie-certified buildings.
