The objective of the project is to develop and transfer the fundamental tools for the replication and scaling of "Biomass Logistics and Commercialization Centers (CLCB)" in Chile. This model has been implemented, adapted, and replicated in various European markets, with a value proposition focused on local development through the large-scale biomass production chain, quality assurance, and building consumer trust. This was made possible through CORFO funding via the “STRATEGIC PUBLIC GOODS FOR COMPETITIVENESS” tool (code 18BPE-93781).
Although wood biomass is a fuel with characteristics that should position it as a highly competitive alternative (local, carbon-neutral, low-cost), the challenge remains to leverage the resource as a tool to integrate benefits such as generating a continuous, reliable, and competitive supply, suitable for the economic and environmental needs of southern Chile’s cities (CLCB scenario). On the other hand, the current scenario is marked by negative externalities related to a predominantly artisanal production model, resulting in a low-quality, highly polluting product.
