Berlin 2030: Strong city. Strong future. Berlin is growing and changing. In light of this transformation, the Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment has developed a clear vision for the future of the city and its urban development goals. With the Berlin Strategy, the federal capital now has its first interdepartmental blueprint for the long-term, sustainable development of the city since reunification.
The Berlin Strategy | Urban Development Concept Berlin 2030 describes “Berlin today” and “Berlin tomorrow.” The status report presented an analysis of Berlin's current situation and evaluated trends relevant to urban development. Numerous concepts, strategic plans, and upcoming projects were incorporated into the in-depth analysis. The status report thus formed the basis for the strategic development of the federal capital.
The Berlin Strategy looks to the future. Based on the city's strengths, the metropolis is facing up to the challenges ahead, agreeing on prospects for development and setting priorities for implementation. Six qualities – unique selling points – distinguish Berlin: a dynamic capital city with international appeal, an innovative business and science location, a creative place for everyone to flourish, a social, inclusive, and cosmopolitan city, a green city with short distances, and a metropolis with great potential for expansion. Eight strategies have been formulated, targeting very different areas of action. The strategies are located in ten transformation areas, where spatial priorities have been set. In these areas, the BerlinStrategy becomes “tangible.”
EBP supported the Senate Administration in close cooperation between its Zurich and Berlin offices in the preparation of the status report and the BerlinStrategy. An important basis for the strategy were the City Forums 2030 and the workshops, which were attended by representatives of the professional public. This input was supplemented by interdepartmental discussion rounds within the Senate Administration. IMORDE Projekt- & Kulturberatung GmbH was responsible for public relations and event management.
