The Städtekranz Berlin-Brandenburg (Berlin-Brandenburg Association of Cities) held a policy dialogue on the topic of “Quo vadis urban redevelopment in the east? Requirements for a future urban redevelopment program” on September 22, 2015, in Brandenburg an der Havel.
Together with urban redevelopment stakeholders in the state of Brandenburg and interested parties from other eastern German states, the event, which was supported by the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning (MIL), identified the particular challenges facing future urban redevelopment in eastern German municipalities. The specific requirements that still exist in eastern Germany for a future support program were discussed during the event and formulated in a position paper.
The Städtekranz Berlin-Brandenburg and representatives of other eastern German states, urban redevelopment cities, and associations have formed an initiative group called “Stadtumbau Ost plus” (Urban Redevelopment East Plus) to contribute the position of the East German urban redevelopment cities to the parallel “Evaluation of Urban Redevelopment East and West” by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) and the subsequent expert policy discussion on the design of future urban redevelopment funding.
As part of its office activities for the Städtekranz Berlin-Brandenburg, EBP took on the task of drafting the position paper, preparing and moderating the event. The further process will be actively pursued within the framework of the network and the expert support provided by the urban redevelopment project group.
