As part of the revision of its ISEK (2018), the city of Gröningen has placed the focus on energy efficiency and climate protection. A climate protection and adaptation concept is to be developed with a catalog of measures to reduce CO2 emissions by 2040.

Text

With the creation of the ISEK in 2015 and its update in 2018, the city of Gröningen has created a guide and planning basis for targeted and sustainable urban development. However, this concept alone is not enough to deal with the growing demands of climate protection and adaptation to climate change. For this reason, the city of Gröningen has decided to address the issues of climate protection and climate adaptation and to develop a corresponding concept.
Gröningen has already implemented various individual climate protection measures in recent years. The concept now aims to bundle these measures and derive further measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby formulating a climate and energy policy strategy. A particular concern is to create structures that enable climate protection management to be sustainably anchored in the administration.
In addition to climate protection, the issue of climate adaptation is also being considered. The effects of climate change are already evident in Gröningen. The concept provides a vulnerability analysis and identifies areas of the city that are particularly affected.
The climate protection concept is being developed for the entire city, including its districts. Particular attention is being paid to the backdrop of urban development. By integrating climate protection measures into urban development, effective measures can be promoted in their implementation.
EBP is developing the following components of the climate protection concept:

  • Activity profile
  • Energy and greenhouse gas balance
  • Opportunity-risk analysis in the area of climate adaptation
  • Potential analysis
  • Catalog of measure

The process is accompanied by various participation formats for different stakeholder groups.
