The municipality of Zeuthen is one of the smaller municipalities that have already set out on this path and recognized their responsibility in the area of climate protection. The focus consultation brings together existing activities, drafts a common goal, and derives measures for the near future.

The objective of the focused consulting is to examine various municipal activities for effectiveness and to describe a clear path for climate protection activities in priority areas. In addition to individual measures, the focus is on pursuing a shared goal and defining the path to achieve it. What savings have already been achieved—where does the municipality want to concentrate its efforts in the next one to three years? The following questions must be clarified in advance: What costs and subsidies can be budgeted for the planned activities? How can a small or financially weak municipality leverage its resources? Where does cooperation and exchange with other levels of government and private actors make sense? These and other important questions form the basis for focusing on locally relevant fields of action, concrete projects, milestones, and applications for further funding. The political bodies, the administration, and stakeholders ultimately have a basis for decision-making on the distribution of resources.

As a basis for its work, EBP compiled a qualitative and partially quantitative inventory of all sectors. In various workshops, we worked with municipal representatives and experts from the administration to identify priority areas for action, define objectives, and ultimately derive measures. The municipality decided on a priority measure, the application for which concludes the focus consultation. For the remaining agreed measures, EBP advised on the use of possible funding for their implementation.
