Founded in 1995, the municipal working group “Städtekranz Berlin-Brandenburg” connects seven medium-sized towns in Brandenburg that play a special role in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region due to their location and function in the second ring. Its work pursues the following three objectives: 1. Promoting the exchange of professional experience between the cities, 2. Representing common interests and positioning on issues of urban and regional development policy, and 3. Joint implementation of projects and campaigns for the benefit of the member cities.

EBP performs the administrative functions for the working group. The administrative office is the central point of contact between the member cities and third parties. It is responsible for preparing, conducting, and following up on committee meetings, providing technical support to the thematic project groups on “urban development,” “transport,” and “economic development,” developing joint technical positions, and centrally coordinating joint network activities. The Brandenburg Urban Development Day, the largest joint event of the Strong Cities platform, is supported in terms of content and organization.

The following projects and activities in recent years have marked important milestones in the network's work, with the office responsible for overall coordination in each case.

  • Joint organization of the Brandenburg Urban Development Day together with the Working Group of Cities with Historic City Centers and the Brandenburg City Forum every two years since 2011
  • Specialist conference and workshops for Brandenburg's “cities in the second ring”: The Städtekranz and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning regularly hold specialist conferences on development prospects for the metropolitan region and deepen the exchange of expertise in workshops on key urban development topics.
  • “Klimaschätzer 2.0” (Climate Estimator 2.0) was carried out as a project from 2021 to 2022 and helps member cities to better estimate the climate impact of construction projects.
  • Joint design and implementation of the “Die Stadtentdecker” (City Explorers) project with the Brandenburg Chamber of Architects from 2013 to 2015.
  • Municipal exchange of information and experience “Energy and climate – urban strategies and fields of action” in April 2013
