The purpose of this cooperation is to collaborate in the development, networking, and provision of data on infrastructure on federal waterways.
Starting in 2020, infrastructure projects under the responsibility of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure are to be planned and implemented with the help of BIM (Building Information Modeling). The resulting data volumes and additional sophisticated visualizations provided by object-oriented 3D design represent a wide range of potential uses that complement the existing data.
The Waterways and Shipping Administration uses a wide range of data in various IT systems that have evolved over time to manage its portfolio of structures. Examples include extensive basic data on structures, current status information on waterway structures and bridges, and inventory documents.
The aim of the cooperation between the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute and EBP Germany is to investigate, develop, and subsequently implement a concept for an IT architecture for networking and providing existing information on infrastructure on federal waterways. The focus is on the federal government's OpenData initiative, which will require proactive information provision by the administration in the future. This requires a comprehensive and up-to-date database. This can only be guaranteed if the data is obtained from the various IT systems that the waterway and shipping administration has integrated into its work processes.
Extensive research and development work is planned and desired by the contracting parties within the framework of the cooperation. The details of this work will be agreed upon by the contracting parties in separate contracts for research and development services.
