EBP teamed up with synergo to develop the “Electric Mobility for Municipalities” guide for Energy Switzerland. It provides municipalities with a structured and neutral overview of possible measures, strategies, and support options.
Swiss road traffic is currently almost entirely dependent on fossil fuels and accounts for around one third of domestic CO2 emissions. Since most of these emissions are produced by cars with combustion engines, electric vehicles offer an environmentally friendly alternative. In order to show municipalities that have not yet looked into the topic of electric mobility in detail what options are available to them, we have teamed up with synergo to develop a guide that can be applied in general.
The guide is divided into four areas of action:
Planning
How can cities and municipalities proceed when planning measures to promote electric mobility? Where are the starting points in existing planning instruments and laws for promoting electric mobility? Possible measures include:
- Positioning oneself strategically in the field of electric mobility
- Developing a concept for electric mobility
- Taking electric mobility into account in transport planning
- Creating the necessary conditions in building and land use regulations
Role Model
How can administrations set an example? In which areas within the administration can electric vehicles be used? Possible measures include:
- Developing and implementing a mobility concept for the administration
- Optimizing the municipal vehicle fleet and business travel
- Setting up charging stations for employees and customers/visitors
- Including ecological criteria in tenders
Information and Advice
What communication channels can cities and municipalities use to inform, raise awareness, and advise the population and selected target groups on the topic of electric mobility? Possible measures include:
- Building expertise through participation in networks
- Making information on electric mobility easily accessible
- Organizing events and awareness campaigns
- Recognizing pioneers, holding competitions
Infrastructure and Services
What infrastructure and mobility services can cities and municipalities provide themselves to promote electric vehicles? How can they collaborate with private providers? Possible measures include:
- Analyzing future demand for charging stations
- Providing publicly accessible charging stations
- Supporting sharing services
- Supporting innovative pilot projects
The proposed measures are described briefly and clearly and illustrated with practical examples.
