Maintenance, servicing, and further development of the NinJo meteorological workstation system

Text

To fulfill its tasks in the field of weather forecasting and warning services, the German Weather Service, together with international partners, develops and operates extensive software systems for storing, evaluating, visualizing, and creating meteorological data and products.
The NinJo system was developed as part of an international consortium led by the German Weather Service and is used operationally worldwide by the German Weather Service, the ZGeoBw of the German Armed Forces, and various weather services in other countries (e.g., Denmark, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, South Africa) and operated on more than 1,000 client workstations.
Since 2002, the international project team has been continuously supported by EBP Deutschland GmbH through the EuMetSys consortium, in which EBP Deutschland GmbH plays a leading role. The support services cover the following areas:

  • Cross-location project coordination (moderation of regular meetings at project management, design, and working group levels), international conference calls
  • In-depth support for the client's development teams in Potsdam and Offenbach by on-site staff
  • Design and software development of central frameworks in the NinJo system
  • Conducting design reviews
  • Provision of numerous application components
  • Preparation and implementation of training courses for developers in the NinJo project team
  • Moderation of and participation in workshops to develop solutions for specific technical issues, as well as
  • support for the release management process.

From 2006 to 2018, EuMetSys also took over sales of the NinJo system, including customer support during implementation and ongoing operation.
