Transportation modes and technologies are shifting and changing, with the introduction of services like micromobility (bikeshare and scooter share), ridesharing (TNCs), micro-transit, and innovations like electrification, and vehicle automation. Many of these opportunities are facilitated by increased interconnectedness of smartphone technology, the spread of fiber optic and broadband internet availability, and new payment technologies. However, the distribution of service provision can be inconsistent, and the barriers to access and adoption can be high.
In response to this changing landscape, EBP offers research and planning services to enhance the inclusiveness and accessibility of mobility options. This includes:
- Engaging community members, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders in focus groups, interviews, and questionnaires to determine barriers to access, particularly for people who already face geographic, physical, financial, language or other barriers to transportation access.
- Conducting demographic and travel behavior analyses to identify gaps in existing services and opportunities for improved access.
- Performing literature reviews and document scans using the latest national research to provide wider perspectives on inclusive mobility and access at the national scale.
